Mater Dei boys water polo sinks Harvard-Westlake, preps for Santa Barbara Invite

Stanford dedicate Jackson Seybold scored 3 objectives and Cooper Haddad included 2 as Mater Dei’s No. 2-ranked kids water polo team opened its season by beating competing Harvard-Westlake, 8-4, in a nonleague suit Thursday evening at Mater Dei.

Princeton devote Billy Motherway made 11 conserves for Mater Dei.

The Monarchs went 0-2 versus the Wolverines last season but showed defensive improvement Thursday. They gave up double-digit objectives in each match in 2016 versus Harvard-Westlake.

The Monarchs open play Friday at the Santa Barbara Invitational. Mater Dei is seeded 2nd to Orange Lutheran. Campolindo and Oaks Christian are seeded 3rd as well as fourth, respectively.
