An oceanview estate in South Laguna Beach owned by celebrity medium James Van Praagh has found a buyer.
The property was for sale at $3.89 million in May and most recently had dropped to $3.39 million.
Beyond a gate, the estate includes a main home and separate, two-story guest house set on almost three-quarters of an acre. The guest house was designed by architect Ted Wells to resemble a Chinese lantern.
The home takes in unobstructed views of wilderness and the Pacific Ocean. Van Praagh said the home has the largest bamboo acreage in the city.
“It’s a real peaceful sanctuary,” he told The Register in May. “It’s so quiet, so creative … It’s so close to heaven.”
The author, producer and TV personality, a self-proclaimed spiritual medium, was portrayed by Ted Danson in a 2002 semi-biographical miniseries, “Living with the Dead.” It was based on Van Praagh’s bestselling book, “Talking to Heaven.” Van Praagh also hosted the show “Beyond” and created the CBS drama, “Ghost Whisperer.”
The buyer is a family with children, said Gayle Waite of Turning Point Properties, the listing agent. She said the home went into escrow on Tuesday.
We’ll see what it sells for.
