Brea man, 18, accused of raping 10-year-old girl

BREA – An 18-year-old has been arrested on suspicion of raping a 10-year-old family friend in her home, police Lt. Darrin Devereux said.

Eric Romero, a Brea resident, was initially arrested on Feb. 23 on suspicion of lewd acts, and posted bond to be released from jail.

“After further investigation, detectives reinvestigated and refiled the case for sexual acts with a child 10 years old or younger,” Devereux said.

He was arrested again on Friday. Romero has been held in lieu of $1 million bail in Orange County jail since his re-arrest, according to jail records.

Police are concerned that Romero could have had exposure to other children and are asking for the public’s help identifying any potential victims.

Romero was charged with seven counts of lewd or lascivious acts on a child under 14. All of the counts are felonies.

If he is convicted on all counts, Romero would face up to life in state prison, the District Attorney’s Office said.

Anyone with information on this incident was asked to contact Brea Detective Dave Wearp at 714-671-4438.
